The highly anticipated DJI Mavic 2 has been finally announced!
The Mavic 2 Drone is finally here! I have always been a DJI fan, as overall their drones are just perfect. Not in every possible way but overall no one comes close as far as I am concerned. Being the owner for a Phantom 3 Pro when it first came out, a Mavic and an Inspire 2 I am very excited about this announcement!
While the Inspire is my commercial workhorse, the Mavic is my go to drone for travel, on the go shooting and fun projects. With the new version we get what we dreamed of! You should now get the best of both worlds, since its expected to offer close to Phantom 4 quality in a portable Mavic form factor.
Meet the Mavic 2 Pro and Zoom Drones
Two models where released which makes it hard to choose between the two though. The done body itself is the same for both versions but you have some choices to make with regards to the camera. I have made my choice after a lot of debate. So whats on offer?
Well, DJI released two Mavic 2’s the Pro and the Zoom. In a nutshell the Pro is more video, photography focused with a 1” CMOS sensor Hasselblad camera at 28mm which is supposed to be better in low light (Because of the bigger sensor) and is able to shoot at DLog-M, 10 Bit H-265 and 20 mega pixel photos (JPG/DNG), HDR Photos and video with 11 stops and control over the Aperture from f2.8 to f11; While the Zoom has the first ever built in optical zoom in camera giving a range of 24mm to 48mm! The sensor is smaller though 1/2.3″ CMOS, 12 mega pixel photos with an option to stitch a 48 mega pixel photo.
Some of the other noteworthy updates include a slightly better flight time at 31 (In optimal conditions), an updated transmission protocol to offer a more stable signal (Up to 8 km as per the specs) at 1080p, Omnidirectional Obstacle Sensing (Front, Back, Sides, top and bottom) and a built in hyper laps function and many more. You can check out the details on the DJI website or just YouTube it as the internet is all over this new drone.
So which Drone to go for is the question?
Well personally, I went with the Mavic 2 Pro, as for me higher quality and a bigger sensor always trumps zoom. To over simplify the choice, if your main focus is photography and videography then go for the Pro version, if your a blogger/vlogger then the zoom might be a more versatile solution for you as the zoom function is really helpful in zooming in to the action without the drone needing to be as close.
